We left Montreal by 10 this morning, and drove along a ridge top with the Pyrenees in view. We stopped to check out a castle ruin in a tiny village, then drove on to Alet-les-Bains, known for its hot springs and 8th century abbey ruins. We have been there a couple of times before and enjoyed it very much. We walked around the village, to find a house I had seen online. Seems it just sold to a German couple who were breaking down moving boxes. We chatted a bit and left feeling rather jealous that they found “the right property” very quickly and at a great price.
We continued south into the Pyrenees to see three more properties. We were not impressed with the first. The second was Chateau Corbere, my favorite property in France, that went under contract about two weeks ago! It checks all my boxes, with a great view, stone walls, easy care, historic hilltop chateau with ancient ruins downhill, completely renovated and a great size. Papa and I hope the new owners will enjoy every moment there! Our last Pyrenees stop was in Prades, at a small hotel/large stone home. The house was beautiful but we were not impressed with the grounds and the drive up. It needed a landscape redesign. We got on the peage to drive north to Puicheric where we are staying in the 13th century Chateau we visited in 2014. The owners are the same and remember us. We are the only guests staying in the castle, so it feels rather exclusive. We had a good day!
