Gila Monster

This Gila monster ran across our driveway as I was using the blower.  He was about 18” long.  Gila monsters have beautiful colorful markings, and forked tongues.  They appear much tougher than they act.  They seem to always run away.

Barrel Cactus

This barrel cactus is blooming just outside our breakfast room.  We’re enjoying it’s yellow blooms.

Happy 74th Birthday, Papa!

Papa has had a wonderful 74th birthday!  After breakfast, we went on a walk through our neighborhood.  Soon after we got back home, his phone started ringing.  He had calls from Lynne, my Mom, Linda, Brian, Sarah, a Zoom call with our girls and their children.  He had emails from our kids from Boys and Girls Club.  Our friends, Ornella and Donato sang to him in Italian and English, with Donato playing guitar.  Ornella made gnocchi with bolognese sauce for his lunch.  It was a terrific day!

We reflected on the past twelve months, trips taken, time spent with family, and time at home.  We cherish the memories made last summer in Mallorca, France, Italy and Greece, and in the fall in Portugal and Iceland, and this spring in Mexico.  We’ve been at home since March 17, social distancing, and staying busy writing, reading, watching foreign films, and spending time each day to exercise.  Life is good!

Ironwood Forest National Monument

Papa and I took a drive this morning, about an hour west of our house, through part of Ironwood Forest National Monument.  Ironwood trees are in bloom, covered in pink flowers.  Palo verde trees are covered in yellow blooms, and saguaro tops are covered in white flowers.  It was a beautiful drive.

Mother’s Day Surprises

On Friday, I received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Brian.  I had a Mother’s Day call from Brian this morning, and our girls arranged a Zoom call with us today at noon.  Claire called yesterday to ask if I would be home between 12 and 1 to receive a gift.  I assured her we would be.  At 11 this morning, the gift was delivered - a box of Godivas and a box of chocolate eclairs.  At 11:50, Whitney called and said the Zoom call was starting and Audrey was already on the call.  Papa and I quickly got online to join the call.  A minute later our doorbell rang.  Papa went to the door and it was Claire!  What a surprise!  She drove down from Phoenix to spend the afternoon with us!  She joined the Zoom call and we had a wonderful time with our girls, laughing and talking, everyone at the same time.  Loved it!  Claire brought an orchid and a fruit tart.  There was certainly a theme to the gifts... lots of sweets. I’ve had a wonderful Mother’s Day!
