On Friday evening, we had aperitifs with our friend and neighbor, Michele. She is 80 years old and was the headmistress of a private school in Fontainebleau for many years. She grew up in Lectoure and knows everyone. She inherited her grandmother’s house in Lectoure, just down the street from us, and she lives here most of the year. Her only son lives in London. Michele is out and about every day.
Michele invited us for apéritifs on Friday evening. We went to her garden first, to see her grapes, then enjoyed time in her salon. She introduced us to Floc, a Gascon specialty made by mixing two thirds unfermented grape juice and one third Armagnac. It was delicious!
On Saturday evening, we met Michele at a piano concert at École Jean-Francois Blade, at the end of our block. The concert was open air and we sat in the courtyard. The pianist, Guilhem Fabre, was superb, playing Bach, Handel, Liszt, and Chopin. We continue to be amazed at the cultural events available in a village of 3000 people. We are enjoying this summer in Lectoure, spending time with new friends and neighbors, attending events as often as we want, and living in our new (old) home.
