On Saturday, we looked at two village houses, the first in Lauzerte, a Plus Beaux village, where Papa had a very interesting conversation with the owner, an American who bought the house in 2007. He strongly recommended buying in a village, with close neighbors, where you can “lock it and leave it.” We intend to use our French house 5-6 months per year, and we had pretty much come to that conclusion before Papa’s conversation. We’ve had various other conversations with people and realized that being part of a “living village” is important to us, and our overall French lives will be much richer from being in a village where we can walk to get bread, go to the bank, see a film, have plat du jour at a local cafe, go to the weekly market.
Saturday afternoon, we looked at a four story house in Lectoure. More about the area - https://thegoodlifefrance.com/what-to-see-and-do-in-lectoure-gers-occitanie/ , https://thegoodlifefrance.com/what-to-see-and-do-in-lectoure-gers-occitanie/ . Both of us loved the house right away! It doesn’t check every box, but more than any other we’ve looked at in the past month. It has amazing views to the south, of the hills of the Gers, with the Pyrenees on the horizon. The house has a small garden, three balconies and a terrace, all on the south side. It has six bedrooms and bathrooms, living, dining, kitchen, breakfast room, and more rooms we don’t know what to do with. It has a workshop for Papa and a one car attached garage, plus a wine cellar. It has plenty of room for family and friends to visit! We signed an offer this afternoon and have our fingers crossed the owner will sign!
