On Saturday morning, we went to the farmer’s market in Fleurance, under their extraordinary market Halle. We bought shiitake mushrooms, four colors of carrots, two types of squash, and a jar of local honey. We strolled through Eglise Saint-Laurent next to the Halle. The stained glass windows were beautiful!
We drove up the road from Fleurance to Lectoure and parked along the rampart walls under the house we are in contract to buy. We walked all about Lectoure, including to the Brocante Village, housed in what was a castle from the 11th century, then a hospital in the 18th century, and is now a very large collection of antique shops. We went in every one! While on a walk in Saint-Clar last evening, we chatted with some local people who told us of the big Vide-Grenier sale today. We got up this morning, and walked up and down and all over Saint-Clar to their giant “garage sale.” Everything imaginable was for sale on individual tables, with everyone selling things, and people from miles around came to buy. We went at 10, and by 11 things had picked up, and were still going at 4 in the afternoon. We decided to do more Brocante shopping, so we drove south to Cologne to a shop near their village center Halle, then to Gimont, where we had lunch and visited a terrific Brocante shop - our best find of the day! Our final stop was at a shop in La Romieu - too expensive, but we walked around La Romieu’s stunning Collegiale Church. We had a terrific weekend of shopping, even though we didn’t buy anything.
