We drove two hours from Abiquiu Lake to Chaco Canyon yesterday. We enjoyed every moment of Papa and my third visit to Chaco Canyon, and Audrey’s first visit. Per UNESCO, “Chaco Canyon, a major center of ancestral Pueblo culture between 850 and 1250, was a focus for ceremonials, trade and political activity for the prehistoric Four Corners area. Chaco is remarkable for its monumental public and ceremonial buildings and its distinctive architecture - it has an ancient urban ceremonial center that is unlike anything constructed before or since.” Chaco Canyon National Historic Park was created in 1907. UNESCO recognized it as a world heritage site in 1987. “It’s as close as the US gets to Egypt’s pyramids and Peru’s Machu Picchu.”
Taylor completed the Junior Ranger booklet and was sworn in as a US National Park Junior Ranger and got a badge, at the end of our visit. We had a terrific day!
