Lisboa

We took the train from Cascais to Lisboa just after noon today.  Our first stop off the train was at Time Out Market for lunch.  Time Out Market is a food court with some of the best restaurants in Lisboa chosen by a panel of experts for the site and attached to the old city market.  We walked around and chose what we wanted, paying the vendors separately.  We sat at long tables, with everyone else.  Lunch was delicious and fun.  We went back for dinner!

Lisboa feels like an old friend.  Our first trip to Lisboa was back in 1993 and it has changed dramatically since then.  Our first impression was that Lisboa was dirty and needed a good pressure wash.  It has had that and more, chosen for numerous awards - Best City Destination and Best City in the World by World Travel Awards.  There is everything from history going back to the Romans and the Moors, to beautiful centuries old churches, to world explorers and hosting the World’s Web Summit two years in a row, 2016-17.  We have returned several times over the years and enjoy the pulse of Lisboa, its restaurants, hotels, mosaic sidewalks, and we even saw the King of Spain in front of our hotel on our last visit.

After checking in at our hotel, we took a walk around part of the city, through Baixa-Chiado, visiting several churches along the way, down to Praco do Comercio, the Tejo waterfront, and then back to the hotel.  We’ve had a good day!
