Alcudia Market and Cala Sant Vicenç Beach

We went to the Alcudia market today.  Over 300 vendors sell goods at the Tuesday market year round.  Alcudia was full!  We shopped and climbed stairs to walk around the outside walls of the city.  We had a delicious lunch in the courtyard of a restaurant.

“The beaches of Alcudia bay were used by the Romans as far back as 123 BC.  Later the Moors would rule for several centuries, until 1229, when the Moors were defeated by King James I of Aragon, who overtook power of the area.  Construction of city walls was started soon after and finished in 1362.  The ruins of a small Roman theater are just outside the city walls.”
We came home for a siesta, then hiked up the trail behind our house.  We left by 6, to go to Playa de Cala Barques at Cala Sant Vicenç.  The beach is dramatically sited with big cliffs on either side.  Lauren and Taylor had fun chasing fish around the rocks and looking for sea glass on the beach.  Cala Barques was beautiful!  I had a wonderful birthday on Mallorca!
