Los Poblanos

I enjoy visiting historic properties, so when we travel, I plan stops to stay overnight or have a meal in interesting historic places.  We are staying tonight in Los Poblanos, in Albuquerque, a working organic farm with luxurious accommodations in historic buildings on an historic piece of property near the Rio Grande River.
Los Poblanos land was inhabited by Ancestral Pueblo Indians for centuries, later part of a land grant in 1716.  The original ranch land was owned by Ambrosio and Juan Cristobal Armijo through the 19th century.  It was reassembled by The Congressman, Albert Simms and his wife, Ruth, in the 1930’s.  Today’s Los Poblanos Inn was their private residence and the center of operations of their dairy, farming, nursery, art businesses and cultural and educational endeavors.  In 1932, Ruth Simms commissioned architect John Gaw Meem, the “father of Santa Fe style,” and numerous artists and craftsmen to renovate the ranch house  and create a cultural center for community events.  Los Poblanos was home to Creamland Dairies, and supplied Albuquerque with much of its milk in the 1930’s and 40’s.
We walked about the Los Poblanos property, with roaming peacocks.  We had a delicious dinner in Campo, the hotel restaurant, and I walked along the Rio Grande as the sun was setting.  A nice day!
