Echo Amphitheater

We took a short drive this morning, north of Abiquiu.  We drove past Ghost Ranch, a retreat center we visited during the summer of 1981, soon after we married.  Ghost Ranch is known for its striated rock formations.  It was the home and studio of Georgia O’Keefe for many years, and the subject of many of her paintings.  It is beautiful from the highway.  We hope to hike there another day.
Just past the entrance to Ghost Ranch, about a mile up the highway, we stopped at Echo Amphitheater, a large concave hollow carved by water cascading over sandstone cliffs for thousands of years.  It was beautiful!
We drove just five miles from Echo Amphitheater to Rio Chama, to a local favorite spot at a bend in the river.  The drive was beautiful, as was the river.
