Papa and I went to Valance-sur-Baise this morning for a vide grenier. The accordion player was the highlight! He was terrific! We didn't find anything we wanted at the vide grenier, so we walked around the village and into the cathedral. We stopped for a warm croissant in a boulangerie on the village square. Valence-sur-Baise was founded in 1274, on a rock outcropping overlooking the Baise River. It's church was built in the 16th century. It's a pretty village with Abbey de Flaran nearby, one of the best conserved abbeys in France.
We drove through the countryside to the village of Maignaut-Tauzia. We walked through the village porte to a tidy group of ancient houses and beautiful roses.
Our last village stop was in Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit. Its village walls date to the 13th century and its chateau to the 16th century. Saint-Orens sits on a hill with beautiful views across the countryside.
