On Friday morning, we took the train from Madrid, north to Segovia. Segovia is an ancient city, famous for its Roman aqueduct - built in the 1st century AD to channel water from springs in the mountains 17 km away, and in use until 1973, its cathedral - built in the 1500’s-1600’s, and its medieval alcazar/castle - used since the 12th century as a home and fortress for 22 kings, it served as one of the templates for Disney’s Cinderella Castle. The city center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.
