The Louvre

We were up early this morning and walked down the Rue de Rivoli to the Louvre by 9:30.  After showing our Pass Sanitaire, we walked up to the ticket window and right into the Louvre.  We’ve been to the Louvre before, but there weren’t many people there this morning and we took our time.  The art is magnificent, but the architecture and decor of the interior and exterior of the Louvre buildings were the real show stopper for us.  At every turn, the painted ceilings, carved wood walls, staircases, carved stone figures… all of it seems surreal and it’s enormous!  Started in the late 1100’s, with more and more built over the next 800 years, it is an impressive structure.  Napoleon’s apartment was full of red velvet and giant chandeliers. So much to see and we saw but a fraction of the the palace, as most of it isn’t open to the public.  There are 38,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited over an area of 783,000 square feet.  It is the most visited art museum in the world.  Amazing!  We had a great time!
