Verona!

I was up early and went on a fast walk through Verona this morning before stores opened.  I crossed the River at the Roman bridge, Ponte Pietra, then walked to the next bridge to cross back into the city.  Over the course of the day, I walked 11 miles.  This is our third time in Verona and we love it!  The wealth of the 1100’s-1400’s is on full display with Verona’s UNESCO status well deserved.

Verona is on the Adige River with approximately 260,000 residents. Verona is a tourist destination, primarily due to the Roman Arena and two of Shakespeare’s plays are set in Verona:  Romeo and Juliet and Two Gentlemen of Verona.  Verona has a history of give and take with various families rising and falling in power, and family members turning on each other.  The architecture of the old city is a mix of styles, with the wealth of the original homeowners on full display in their palazzos, statuary, and marble sidewalks.  Verona is a beautiful city.
