We were anchored just off Delos when we woke up this morning. After breakfast, we took dinghies to the island. Papa and I explored the ruins of Delos for about 2.5 hours. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Delos was inhabited from 3000 BC. It became on of the most important religious enters in Greece and a center of commerce, until the 1st century BC, when ancient religions diminished and trade routes shifted. By the 3rd century AD, there remained only a small Christian settlement and over time it deteriorated. We had a fascinating look at ancient Delos, including the Terrace of the Lions, Sanctuary of Apollo, the Theater, and the Archaeological Museum.
After a late lunch and enjoying a beautiful anchorage, we traveled to Mykonos, just a few minutes away. Papa and I walked around the old part of the city, seeing Little Venice, the famous windmills, tiny Greek Orthodox churches, and bougainvillea hanging over the narrow lanes. We stopped for baklava along the way, then watched the sunset. A good day!
