Lectoure is celebrating National Day this weekend. Last evening, on 13 July, there was a fête dinner in the rugby stadium. Our friend Deirdre invited us to walk down from our hilltop to the stadium and sit at a table with her and several other friends. The dinner was served by two associations (clubs) from Lectoure. We left around 9:30 and walked back up the hill to watch fireworks from our 4th floor balcony. The fireworks were spectacular!
We were up early this morning, leaving our house at 6 a.m. to go to our friend, Annie’s house in La Romieu, to help her prepare for today’s vide grenier. After taking things out of her garage and setting up her sale, we walked around the other vendor’s tables and came home with several things - baskets, pitcher, chair, bench, serving tray, and two pillows. We were back home by 8:45.
I went for my daily walk around the rempart walls, with beautiful fields of blooming sunflowers in view. I ended my walk at Lectoure’s vide grenier. I wasn’t tempted to buy anything after our other morning purchases in La Romieu. Papa and I went to Lectoure’s National Day ceremony at the Monument aux Morts. We saw lots of people we knew and walked to the Mairie after the ceremony for aperitifs. Even though we speak “franglais” a mixture of French and English, we still communicate, and feel fortunate to attend such events and know quite a lot of local people attending.
