Busy Week

We have been quite busy three of five days during this week.  We've had interesting conversations and spent time with several people near and dear to us.  On Wednesday, we had lunch with Karla at Culinary Dropout.  She came directly from school, where she is studying to become a medical assistant.  She told us all about what she has been doing at school and with friends.  We were so happy to see her!

On Wednesday at 3:30, we met Jackson at the Daru Boys and Girls Club.  Jackson won the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson Youth of the Year, so he is now preparing for the statewide competition.  He gave his speech to us several times over an hour, with Papa timing him, and then we made several tweaks for emphasis and timing.  At 4:30 Wednesday afternoon, we met with Jose, to help him fill out an application for a summer engineering program at the University of Arizona.  We left with a few blanks and agreed to meet again on Friday.  We stopped for dinner at a new restaurant, The Dutch, on University Boulevard, across from UA Maingate, then went to a film made in Cairo, The Tentmakers.  We got home after 9 p.m.  It was a long day!

Today has been another long good day!  Yadi called a few days ago and needed some help navigating the university process.  We've known Yadi for several years, from our ranching days.  Her Dad is a cowboy on Three Links Ranch and helped with every roundup and branding on our ranch for several years.  He is one of the best cowboys we've ever known.  Yadi came for brandings some years.  She is a senior in high school and has been accepted at UA.  We met Yadi at 9:30 this morning at the Metropolitan Education Commission, for a meeting with David, counselor extraordinaire!  We went from there to another meeting at 11 with Akhtar, Director of Financial Aid at UA, had lunch, then back to David's office to tie up loose ends.  Yadi's Mom and Dad met us at David's office, to sign papers.  We were happy to see them!   Yadi is a sweet girl and we are thrilled she's invited us on this journey with her, as she is entering college.

We had about an hour after leaving Yadi, so we went to the Center for Creative Photography at UA.  The current photography exhibits are of western landscapes, mostly done by Ansel Adams and Mark Klett.  The photography was stunning with several photos from spans of time, put together to form panoramic viewpoints.  I loved them!

Our final stop this afternoon was at the Daru Boys and Girls Club at 3:30, to meet with Jose again.  His Mom came to sign paperwork and we completed his application to the UA summer engineering program.  We met with Jackson at 4:30, to go over his speech a few more times and then we asked questions, so he could practice spontaneous answering.  All good!
