Over the past days, we’ve gotten together for meals with several friends. Olivier and Kate came for dinner on Sunday the 24th. Olivier is French born and Kate is from the UK. They have lived their 30+ years of married life in France and now on a farm about 30 minutes from us.
Our neighbors, Alice and Gerard came for dinner on Friday, the 29th. Alice is Moroccan born and French speaking only. Gerard is a terrific translator! They are wonderful neighbors and we always enjoy them.
On Saturday, 30 August, we went for lunch at Lesley and Andy’s house in the tiny village of Pouy-Roquelaure. They are both creative chefs and we enjoyed eating on their terrace on a beautiful afternoon.
We had neighbors, Deirdre, Abby, Elizabeth and Jean-Claude for apéros dînatoire on Sunday evening the 31st. It was a rainy evening and we ate in our breakfast room with gray skies overhead. Elizabeth and Jean-Claude retired from a B&B business in the Gers a few years ago, and she brought their “look book” over a couple of days later, full of local places to see, restaurants to visit…
We had lunch at the Bastard Restaurant/Hotel on Wednesday, September 3, with our Belgian friends, Hilde and Filiep. They have a B&B in Saint-Clar and we met them four years ago when we were house hunting. They visited us in Arizona in March 2024.
On Thursday the 4th of September, we had lunch with friends Christine and Maurice, at L’Auberge de Tournecoupe. She is German and he is French. They lived near Montpellier over 30 years and moved to the Gers three years ago. We had a delicious lunch at the least expensive place we’ve been to all summer. The owner/chef and his wife serve creative French dishes, always with smiles. We stopped in Saint-Clar after lunch for tea with our German friend, Ingrid.
That same evening, we had dinner for 12 at L’Apéro in Condom. We joined Lesley and Andy, Susan and Chip, Caroline and Glyn, Kay and Jay, and Rachel and Sid for a tapas style dinner with grand desserts. All of us speak English, so we talk and talk!
