After some months of planning, Whitney flew with Toby and Greta to Phoenix last week, for Toby's 12th year trip, time with Lulu and Papa, to a place of each of our grandchildren's choosing after they turn 12. Whitney stayed with Claire a few days, and Papa and I took Toby and Greta to northern Arizona. We picked them up on Wednesday afternoon and drove to Sedona. We arrived to a sky filled with heavy gray clouds, but the red rocks of Sedona are always beautiful.
We stayed overnight in Sedona and were up early Thursday morning for the drive to Lake Powell. We arrived by 10 and were on the boat by 11. We motored about three hours - it's slow going, about 15 mph, to Padre Bay. We anchored by mid-afternoon. Toby caught one fish on the trip, in Padre Bay. We kayaked and hiked. We played Taboo, and turned in early under a full moon.
On Friday afternoon, we moved from Padre Bay to Warm Creek Bay, where we anchored for the second night. Toby and Greta helped Papa anchor the boat. We hiked and kayaked. We played gin rummy after dinner. We hiked on Saturday morning, up and over the hill by our anchorage. We kayaked and Toby and Papa fished before we motored back to Antelope Point Marina to turn the boat back.
We stopped at Horshoe Bend on the Colorado River - a beautiful sight! We took a tour of Antelope Canyon. It is a stunningly beautiful place!
We headed back to Phoenix by 3, buckled in for the almost four hour drive. Papa and I had an eventful weekend with Toby and Greta!
