Weekend in the Aude and Ariege

We used the occasion of a concert in the Plus Beaux village of Camon, to spend time with two friends, and overnight in the Chateau Abbaye Camon.  We drove 2.5 hours east of Lectoure on Saturday morning, to Montreal, a village we’ve visited many times before and considered buying and living in.  Our friend Marc invited us for lunch.  He also got the key of his next door neighbor’s house, currently for sale, to try and entice us to buy.  I have loved that house for years!  We enjoyed the tour, but we’re happy in Lectoure.  We had a wonderful visit with Marc, a delicious lunch, and we chatted away for hours.

We left Marc’s in Montreal by 3:45 and drove to Camon, a Plus Beaux Village of 143 people.  We came to see La Main Harmonique’s Concert in the village Eglise and to stay in Chateau Abbaye Camon, founded in 778 by Charlemagne.  We checked in at the Chateau, and promptly walked to the Mairie to pick up our concert tickets, and to have a look around the village.  It is charming, ancient, and doorways are covered in roses!  We met our friend, Rebecca, at Restaurant Lobet at 7, had a wonderful dinner, then went to the concert in the ancient eglise.  La Main Harmonique performs a capella, and they were wonderful.   We chatted with Nadia and Fred after the concert.  They live near us in the Gers and are incredible musicians.  We had a wonderful day!
