After meeting the Director of Bus Services on a walk in our B&B neighborhood yesterday afternoon, we took his advice and road the bus from Bunyola to Palma this morning. We visited Mercat d’Oliver and bought fresh local cherries and bananas from the Canary Islands. We walked through Plaza Mayor and into Basilica de Santa Eulalia, and the cloisters and Church of Sant Francesc nearby. We made our way to Parque del Mar and the beautifully planned and built waterfront area of Palma, including Catedral-Basilica de Santa Maria de Mallorca and the Royal Palace de Almudaina next door. We toured the Basilica and walked around the Royal Palace, enjoying the beautiful gardens. We ate lunch at Cafe la Llonja, then walked back toward Mercat d’Oliver, via Passeig del Born, a tree lined avenue with benches and tables with umbrellas for people watching. We had a wonderful day in beautiful Palma! It surpassed our expectations!
