Papa and I were up early on July 4. We ate breakfast at the hotel and walked out onto the deck to a spectacular view!
Whitney called by 8 and said she would arrive within an hour. We drove downtown to find a parking place, and Whitney drove in just a few cars behind us. What a treat to see her, Toby, and Greta! We watched over 800 bikers begin a bike race on Main Street and then we watched Breckenridge’s July 4 parade. Toby and Greta stuffed their pockets with candy thrown from cars and floats in the parade. It was fun!
We rode up the mountain in a gondola and had a picnic, while we waited for more family to arrive.
After Whitney cooked tacos on the stove, the stove top went on the blink, just as we were ready to cook pasta. We brainstormed and came up with boiling water on the gas grill to cook the pasta, with Claire and Brian in charge. Within a half hour we sat on the patio for dinner of pasta with meatballs and Parmesan, tossed salad with fruit and candied pecans. We played charades and a “get to know your family” game after dinner and gave “clean plate club” medals. Papa and I were thrilled to have our children and six of our grandchildren under one roof for a few days!

Brian and Holli drove into Breckenridge within a half hour after we came down the mountain. We got a text from the house rental agent that we could go on to the house, so we stopped at the grocery, then drove to Bear Lodge. Claire, Emerson, and Colby were next to arrive, with Grammar, with Audrey and Dan, Lauren and Taylor arriving soon after. Whitney started cooking, we put things away, the kids explored outside, and our family time began!
