We are safely back home in Tucson. As we traveled over the past two days, we reminisced about our trip of the past month and the things we learned, the sites we visited, the meals we ate, and the places we stayed. Some of our favorite things:
1. spending time with Emerson and Colby in London, buying ice cream for them at a local park, taking Emerson to the Walkie Talkie Building, seeing Colby perform a poem at his school
2. staying in Thatched Cottage in Pulham St. Mary with Claire, Emerson, and Colby - all of us pulling weeds in the vegetable garden, and an overnight stay just with Colby
3. going to the Chelsea Flower Show
4. spending a day with the UA Mediterranean Diet Class in Verona, going to a pasta factory and having a seven course pasta lunch
5. spending time in Verona - walking around the Arena, the churches, along the river
6. being in Orvieto for the two day Corpus Christi Festival - the pageantry and beautiful costumes
7. staying in the little castle in Sermugnano with our misty morning view of Castiglione in Teverina
8. visiting so many beautiful hilltop villages, stopping to explore Etruscan tombs in fields and hillsides in Umbria and southern Tuscany
9. driving through the Val d'Orcia - so beautiful!
10. being in the medieval city of Pitigliano when the Caravana Romantica antique car rally arrived with a band of drummers welcoming them
10. spending a day with the UA Study Abroad in Orvieto class in Tarquinia to see Etruscan tombs
11. lunch with Alba and Claudio in Orvieto - delicious!
12. dinner with the storytelling group in Sermugnano
13. the fragrance of roses, jasmine, and blooming trees in Italy - everywhere!
14. verdant green pastures, and miles of vineyards in large fields and tucked into hillside pockets wherever we drove in Italy
15. staying at Great Fosters Hotel near Heathrow Airport on our last night of the trip
We had a wonderful time!
