We took the metro to the Marmottan Museum this morning, with the “world’s leading collections of works by Claude Monet and Berthe Morisot.” There are also pieces by Delacroix, Boudin, Degas, Sisley, Pissarro, Rodin, and Chagall, among other well known impressionist artists. The Marmottan was formerly the townhome of a wealthy businessman and art collector, Paul Marmottan. After Claude Monet’s death in 1926, his youngest son, gave the bulk of his work to the Marmottan Museum. There were many pieces of art that we easily recognized.
We took the metro from the Marmottan to the Champs-Élysée and walked to the Petit Palais, and spent a couple of hours enjoying the art and architecture. Built in 1900, the art exhibited in the Petit Palais is owned by the City of Paris. Amazing!
We picked up an afternoon snack and walked to the Tuileries for a picnic. We dropped into the Church of Saint-Roch, just a block from our hotel. A musical ensemble was practicing, and they were amazing! We picked up a flyer for their performance this evening, of pieces by Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, and more. We listened for close to an hour, enjoying our own concert!
