I went on a two mile walk before breakfast, up and back down Paseo Montejo, the most famous street in Merida, lined with mansions built in the late 1800’s. After a wonderful breakfast at our hotel, we met Audrey’s family and walked to the Plaza Grande where we visited Merida Cathedral, built in the late sixteenth century by Spanish colonialists. It was the first such cathedral to be built in inland Americas. Also on Plaza Grande, we visited Casa de Montejo Museum. We walked through Plaza Grande, colorful and teeming with people and pigeons, with palm trees swaying in the breeze. We had a wonderful morning.
