We drove west this morning to a village called Coyote. We were interested solely because of it’s name. The views in every direction, all the way to Coyote, were beautiful. We drove around the nearby village of Youngsville, after noticing several old adobe ruins. The whole area has big red and golden rocks, with creeks and rivers running through canyons lined with bright green trees, mostly cottonwood, and farming all along the waterways. We drove the opposite direction to another little village called Canones, again with rivers and creeks, farming and ranching. I noticed a monastery on google map, not far from Canones, and we stopped. We spoke with two monks. One gave us a short tour of their facilities and their beautiful Greek Orthodox chapel. He gifted us two pairs of beeswax candles, for stopping by. Our last stop of the morning was along Rio Chama for a hike. We parked near where we turned around last time, and hiked a path along the river for about a mile in each direction. We love the sound of running water!
