Cosimo gave us such great advice yesterday, that we took his advice again today. We drove first to Polignano a Mare, about 45 minutes north of Masseria San Paulo Grande, and on the Adriatic Sea. Polignano is full of little alleys and white washed houses, set high on the rocky coast, with sea caves and grotto undercutting the coastline. The Cliff Diving World Championship was held in Polignano in June.
Next stop, just 10 minutes south, was Monopoli. Monopoli is thought by many to be the most beautiful port on the Italian Puglian Adriatic Coast. It’s historic quarter is full of churches, tall medieval houses, a castle on the water, and a Romanesque cathedral built in 1107.
After exploring Monopoli, we drove a bit further south past the Roman ruins of Egnazia, to Savalletri, for lunch at Osteria del Porto, overlooking the port on the Adriatic. We had fresh fish and a lot more. We ate too much! It was delicious!
After a late afternoon rest, Papa and I went to Cegli Messapica for passeggiata, the Italian evening stroll. I got a double gelato and after walking about the castle and around the main square, we sat on a bench for a bit and people watched. Another good day!
