We met Jackson about three weeks ago, at the Steve Daru Boys and Girls Club. I talked about his situation in this post. We've been in touch with Jackson every couple of days since we met. Last Monday, we picked him up after school, took him out for burgers, and then to meet with David at Metropolitan Education Commission. David is a guru of planning for college and scholarships. He suggested Jackson take an aptitude test in his high school guidance office and come back today for another appointment. Jackson took the test last week. We picked him up again this afternoon and took him to meet with David. David helped him apply for FAFSA and then helped him enroll in Pima Community College, for next fall. As we were leaving, Jackson thanked us, and told us he had not expected to go to college. He had no idea where to start or what to do. We will continue to help him as best we can. In the meantime, we are grateful to get to know this young man, quick to smile and generous with hugs.
