Papa and I stopped at San Xavier Mission yesterday on our way back from the San Rafael Valley. San Xavier was founded in 1692 by Father Kino, along a trail of other missions stretching from Mexico to San Francisco. San Xavier is on the Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation, on the banks of the Santa Cruz River. The first mission church was built around 1700 and the current mission church was built between 1783 and 1797. San Xavier is still in active use. It is also known as the White Dove of the Desert. I particularly love the view of the dome from the back of the church.
