Trumpet Spectacular!

This afternoon, we went to the Trumpet Spectacular! at St. Phillip’s in the Hills Church.  It was a fabulous concert, with nationally known trumpet players, Jason Carder and Ryan Darke, along with the University of Arizona Trumpet Ensemble, and other ensembles, including piano, drums, and guitar.  They played music from Mendelssohn to the Beatles, to Leonard Bernstein to jazz and more.  The main sanctuary at St. Phillips in the Hills was mostly full.  We enjoyed every note of music performed with the backdrop of the Santa Catalina Mountains through the window.  Beautiful on every count!

Doctor of Musical Arts Recital

We went to Holsclaw Hall at the University of Arizona this evening to hear Misael Barraza Diaz, play guitar in his Doctor of Musical Arts Ensemble Recital.  We have been watching Misael play guitar since 2011.  He has played in our home for a party.  We've heard him play in Phoenix, at Tohono Chul Park, at flamenco festivals, at Vicente's Restaurant, and numerous times at UA. 

Misael is a very talented guitarist.  He put together the recital program, which included two male vocalists singing varied music, one classical of an early 1600's composer, the second opera style in Spanish, then a quartet of guitars playing Bach, and the final two pieces were Misael playing guitar in a duo with a flutist.  The music was written by an Argentinian famous for his tango compositions.  The concert was superb!  Unfortunately, they asked everyone not take photos at the concert! 

Cloudy Day

Today was quite cloudy, with .15" of rain falling in the morning.  I went for my walk in the afternoon and loved watching the constantly moving clouds.

Basketball

Papa and I went to a girl's basketball game tonight, with Rincon playing Cienega.  We know girls on both teams, Elizabeth, Tatiana, and Destiny.  It was a hard fought game.  We enjoyed it!

New Year's Breakfast

We had breakfast this morning with several of our BGC kids.  Some are in college, some still in high school, and the chatter between them is very interesting.  Alex and Gabi are sophomores at ASU, Rudy is a sophomore at UA, and Alan is a senior at UA.  Jackson, Freddy, Destiny, and Sabrina are in high school.  We enjoy seeing each one and hearing what they are doing or planning in the coming months.  We are so proud of them!

Anniversary Hike

We decided to take a hike together today, to celebrate our anniversary.  We chose a trail we had not hiked before, the Linda Vista Trail, not far from our house.  We looped around the base of Pusch Ridge about three miles.  It was a beautiful morning!

37th Anniversary

Today we are celebrating our 37th anniversary!  We are fortunate to be healthy and happy, full of curiousity.  We enjoy adventures together every day, with plenty more in the planning stages.  We  are grateful for our children and grandchildren and the time we spend with them in far flung places each year.  Papa and I take care of each other.  We have fun together.  We challenge each other!  We look forward to many more years together!
