At my “Déjeuner aux Femmes” in June, my friend Agnes invited Papa and me to a family wedding and reception on September 6. We did not know the bride, her grand-niece who lives in Paris, but she insisted. So a few days later, I stopped by their house and insisted that if we attend the wedding and reception, I wanted to be helpful. Agnes agreed that I could work in their garden. So I worked in their garden for two months, several days each week, trimming trees and bushes, pulling plants off the rempart walls, cleaning out sheds, moving piles of old yard debris, and planting some flowers. There was often a reward at the end of each day… I came home with a basket of fresh fruits - pears, apples, figs, plums. The real reward is that my gardening made a difference, and the garden was beautiful the day of the wedding.
